No obvious eye phenotypes are seen when Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU.

Flies expressing ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa ubiquitously under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI are more sensitive to zinc overdose than controls.

The amount of vacuolisation seen in the brains of 20 day old flies expressing ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu is similar to controls.

Flies expressing ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu develop locomotor defects with age; from 30 days onwards a significantly greater proportion of flies display defects in climbing ability compared to controls. Lifespan is reduced by approximately 7% compared to controls.

Expressing ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu has no effect on the memory of 5 day old flies following olfactory aversive conditioning.

Expression of Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.cLa enhances the rough eye phenotype seen in flies expressing Hsap\MAPTR406W.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU. Lifespan is also further shortened. The level of vacuolisation in the CNS is exacerbated.

Expression of ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa enhances the brain vacuolisation phenotype seen in 20 day old flies when Hsap\APPAβ1-42.Scer\UAS.cIa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu.

Expression of ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa enhances the locomotor defects seen when Hsap\APPAβ1-42.Scer\UAS.cIa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu. Flies begin to display climbing defects at around 15 days after eclosion, as opposed to 20-25 days when Hsap\APPAβ1-42.Scer\UAS.cIa is expressed alone.

Expression of ZIP1Scer\UAS.cLa enhances the reduction in lifespan seen when Hsap\APPAβ1-42.Scer\UAS.cIa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu. Median lifespan is reduced by 12.5% and 22.2% at 25[o]C and 29[o]C respectively.
