      Mutant larvae show severe injury after being gently pricked with a glass needle, bleeding profusely with organs spilling out of the cuticle and they die within a few minutes (most wild-type larvae show no injury in this assay and only about 40% bleed slightly).

      Chitin accumulation in the tracheal lumen is strongly reduced in stage 16 mutant embryos (in wild-type embryos, chitin accumulates from stage 14 onwards and is degraded at stage 17).
