Detailed Description

The eyes of female flies expressing BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF are 20% larger than wild type. No increase is seen in male flies.

Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa under the control of both Scer\GAL4nos.PG and Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 results in defective egg chambers during mid-oogenesis (stages 7-9), characterised by a lack of follicle cells and the presence of large, uncondensed nurse cell nuclei. Approximately 20% of stage 14 egg chambers show uncondensed, persisting nurse cell nuclei.

Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa partially rescues the eye phenotypes seen when Zzzz\E4orf4Scer\UAS.cPa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 24[o]C. In females the resulting eye size is comparable to wild type, whereas males eyes are ~85% the size of those in wild type flies. Eyes still appear rough and shape remains disrupted.

Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa rescues the eye phenotypes seen when rprScer\UAS.cZa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 24[o]C. In females, eye size is increased compared to wild type (but is still small compared to the expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa alone), whereas in males the eye size seen is comparable to that seen in wild type. Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa eliminates eye roughness in both males and females.

Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.P\T.cBa completely suppresses the lethality seen when rprScer\UAS.C is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 24[o]C.
