Overexpression of HScer\UAS.cMa during early eye development under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH causes dramatic tissue loss. Most animals die as pharate adults, because they fail to eclose from the pupal case due to the lack of eyes and parts of the head capsule. At 25[o]C, Scer\GAL4ey.PH>HScer\UAS.cMa causes lethality with nearly complete penetrance, whereas at 18[o]C, phenotypes are milder. Overexpression of HScer\UAS.cMa along the antero-posterior axis in the developing wing using Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 causes a large incision at the wing tip and a smaller distance between longitudinal veins L3 and L4. At 25[o]C, most animals die as pharate adults. Overexpression of HScer\UAS.cMa in the posterior compartment using Scer\GAL4en.PU results in loss of tissue and notches in the wing margin. Overexpression of HScer\UAS.cMa during bristle development using Scer\GAL4sca.PC results in bristle loss and socket to shaft transformation at 18[o]C. At 25[o]C, Scer\GAL4sca.PC>HScer\UAS.cMa causes nearly complete pharate lethality.
Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in small, rough eyes.
Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in a rough-eye phenotype, and a size reduction of the adult eye by nearly 50%. In early pupal development, death of cone cells is observed and only 2-3 cone cells remain. At 60 hours after puparium formation eye discs show extensive signs of cell disorganisation and distint cell types are no longer detectable. Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa in the larval eye disc (under the control of heat-shock induced Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP) results in increased levels of cell death.
The overall number and positioning of the longitudinal glia in the embryo is not altered by expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4htl.POS.
Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in an increase in the number of apoptotic cells in the area of ectopic HScer\UAS.cMa expression in the third larval instar eye disc. The adults produced have small, rough eyes. Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4bi-md653 results in an increase in the number of apoptotic cells in the area of ectopic HScer\UAS.cMa expression in the third larval instar wing disc. The adults produced have notched wings.
Expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4bi-md653 in the wing severely inhibits growth and results in wing margin defects, thickening of the veins, and aberrant bristles.
When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4ap-md544, over commitment of some of the dorsal row of wing margin sensory organ precursors (SOPs) is seen, others are abolished. The ACV and L3 precursors of campaniform sensilla are also over committed and supernumerary SOPs are seen. In contrast to m4Scer\UAS.cAa and Scer\UAS.cAa, over expression of HScer\UAS.cMa driven by Scer\GAL4ap-md544, produced naked patches or double-shaft socketless bristles.
When expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 produces a notched wing tip phenotype.
