Flies expressing Nmdar1N631Q.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU show normal learning (memory measured immediately after conditioning) and short-term memory (assayed 1 hour after training) in an aversive olfactory conditioning assay. One-day memory after spaced training (long-term memory) is reduced compared to wild type, while one-day memory after massed training (anesthesia-resistant memory) is normal.
Acute expression of Nmdar1N631Q.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.Switch.PO (by feeding 1mM RU486 starting one day prior to training) disrupts one-day long term memory in an aversive olfactory conditioning assay, while anesthesia-resistant memory is unaffected.
Expression of Nmdar1N631Q.Scer\UAS under the control of either Scer\GAL4Feb170, Scer\GAL4ey-OK107, Scer\GAL4c309 or Scer\GAL4C42 disrupts long-term memory in an aversive olfactory conditioning assay, while anesthesia-resistant memory is unaffected.
Expression of Nmdar1N631Q.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU rescues the learning defects seen in Nmdar1EP331 flies.
