Homozygous females have rudimentary ovaries and are completely sterile.

Homozygous females have rudimentary ovaries, and are sterile.

Homozygous arxGS12962 mutant females lay no eggs. arxGS12962 mutant ovaries appear rather small and severely deformed. Ovaries lack the follicle cell layer that usually encapsulates each egg chamber. Polar cell specification is disrupted, as are oocyte polarity and specification. arxGS12962 mutant flies appear otherwise normal.

No fertility defects are detected in arxGS12962 mutant males and testes appear normal.
