Description

Part of the stai gene (sequence starting at exon 6 and finishing at exon 8) has been replaced by a w+mW.hs marker. This results in the disruption of translation from Thr55 (coordinates as in the stai A isoform).

A significant number of egg chambers show delays in border cell migration in homozygous females. Initiation of border cell migration is normal, however, once migration has started there is a significant reduction in net migration speed compared to wild type. The mutant migrating border cells show an abnormal distribution of cell extensions: there is a significant increase in the number of extensions that extend from the back and side of the cluster (where front is towards the oocyte) compared to controls.

A significant number of egg chambers show delays in border cell migration in females containing homozygous border cell clones. Initiation of border cell migration is inefficient compared to controls, but once migration has started, net migration speed is normal. The distribution of cell extensions in the mutant migrating border cells is not significantly different from wild type. The migrating cluster often retains an attachment to the anterior end of the egg chamber for a long period, indicating that one border cell is still attached to a non-border cell from the epithelium. These "attached" clusters migrate more slowly than those without an attachment.

staitub.A rescues the reduced net cluster speed seen in migrating border follicle cells in homozygous staiKO females.

Expression of staiScer\UAS.A under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 rescues the inefficient initiation of border follicle cell migration seen in females containing homozygous border cell clones.
