Comment:

Scer\FRT-mediated recombination between two progenitor insertions, resulting in a deletion that removes upstream coding exons of the current wak annotation (Annotations CG6954 and CG42686 were merged as CG45058 (wake) in release 5.53 of the genome annotation).

Detailed Description
Statement

Homozygous flies show a significant reduction in total daily sleep and a significant increase in sleep latency compared to controls.

The action potential firing rate of l-LNv neurons in wakeD2 mutants is similar to that of controls at ZT0-ZT2, but is nearly 4-fold higher than controls at ZT12-ZT14 (indicating that the cells are more excitable at the day/night transition). Resting membrane potential of the mutant l-LNv cells is not significantly different between ZT0-ZT2 and ZT12-ZT14.

The increase in sleep latency seen in wakeD2 flies is blocked if they are also mutant for either Pdfrunspecified or Pdf01.

Rdl1/wakeD2 double heterozygotes show a significant increase in sleep latency compared to controls (this phenotype is not seen in either single heterozygote).
