Even when retinal is not added to the food, larvae expressing Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS via Scer\GAL4RapGAP1-OK6 display a pronounced reaction to photostimulation, as measured by the degree of immobilization. When retinal is added, light application induces uninterrupted paralysis even at low light intensities.

Scer\GAL4RapGAP1-OK6-mediated Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS expression results in a train of excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) which gradually decay in response to a relatively low intensity light stimulus.

Low intensity green or blue light very effectively immobilizes adult flies expressing Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS via Scer\GAL4RapGAP1-OK6, even in the absence of retinal supplementation.

Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5-mediated Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS expression triggers a proboscis extension reflex (PER) in satiated flies using very low light intensities.

Photo-activation of Scer\GAL4fru.P1.D-mediated Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS expression in males triggers distinct behavioural modules of male courtship (in fully intact flies). The normal sequence of courtship modules is partially reversed. In females, certain aspects of male courtship behaviour are elicited.

Scer\GAL4ple.PF Crei\ChR2XXL.Scer\UAS flies acquire a clear aversive short-term memory for an odor paired with blue-light activation, independent of dietary retinal supplementation.
