Expression of bdlScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Mz97 in third instar larvae leads to a significant decrease in the extension of wrapping glial processes in the lamina, as compared to wild type. These larvae also exhibit abnormal wrapping of photoreceptor axon bundles in the optic stalk as compared with wild type, with some bundles wrapped by multiple layers of glial processes.

In wild-type, R7 and R8 rhabdomere axons in the eye form a regularly spaced columnar projection pattern and terminate in two separate synaptic layers M6 and M3, respectively. In flies overexpressing bdlScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU, R7 axonal terminals frequently stick with R7 terminals in neighbouring columns, and many R7 axons terminate abnormally at the R8 terminal layer (M3 layer).
