mir-965KO1 mutant flies appear to be morphologically normal with the exception of defects in abdominal segmentation. The predominant defect is a dorsal gap in one or more abdominal segments, in some cases leading to segment fusion. Some of these flies also exhibit ectopic bristles associated with a polarity defect.

mir-965KO1/mir-965KO2 mutant flies appear to be morphologically normal with the exception of defects in abdominal segmentation. The predominant defect is a dorsal gap in one or more abdominal segments, in some cases leading to segment fusion. Some of these flies also exhibit ectopic bristles associated with a polarity defect.

mir-965KO1/mir-965KO2 mutant histoblasts undergo asynchronous division, resulting in the presence of cells of different sizes. In contrast to controls, a subset of the histoblasts undergo cell death. Subsequently the rate of histoblast nest expansion is slower in the mir-965KO1/mir-965KO2 mutants than in controls. In contrast to wild type, larval epidermal cells are still present in the nests.

Homozygous males and females show a significant increase in median lifespan compared to controls.

mir-965KO/Df(2L)ED19 males and females show a significant decrease in median lifespan compared to controls.
