Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R19F09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R25D01 in adults does not affect food intake or climbing rate, compared to controls.

Inhibition of synaptic release (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 32[o]C) in neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R19F09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R25D01 during training and testing significantly impairs aversive odor-associated short term memory in adults, compared to controls; these flies also have significantly impaired aversive odor-associated short term memory when these neurons are inhibited (at 27[o]C) during testing only.
