Inhibition (using shits1.UAS.Tag:MYC at 31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 in adults during retrieval, but not training or consolidation, significantly reduces 2 h aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition during training, consolidation or retrieval significantly reduces 2 h appetitive olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition in combination with a paired odor results in a significant increase in short-term associative aversive olfactory memory in fed or starved flies, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 in adults during training, consolidation or retrieval significantly reduces 2 h aversive, but not appetitive, olfactory memory, compared to controls; thermogenetic activation in combination with a paired odor, does not affect short-term associative olfactory memory in fed or starved flies, compared to controls.

Adult males with inhibition (using Ctet\tetXTNT-LC.UAS) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 have significantly weaker suppression of courtship behavior following training with mated females, compared to controls.

Blocking synaptic transmission (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xScer\UAS at 33[o]C) from neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 combination of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 or Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R26E07 significantly impairs visual (aversive color and brightness discrimination conditioning) but not olfactory (aversive conditioning) memory performance, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1Scer\UAS.(B).cKa at 30-31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the following split-GAL4 pairs results in a significant increase of antennal grooming behavior, compared to controls: Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R60E02, Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R25F11.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 28.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 in adult males or females significantly increases the amount of sleep, compared to controls; activation of neurons targeted by Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R26E07 significantly increases the amount of sleep in adult females, but not males, compared to controls; in the case of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03, but not Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R26E07, activation significantly increases locomotor activity of awake adult males, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 31.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 after sleep deprivation in adult males significantly reduces the amount of extra rebound sleep, compared to controls.
