Acute thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R48B03 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30G08, in combination with a paired odor, in adults results in a significant increase in short-term associative aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shits.UAS.cUa at 33[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R48B03 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30G08 in adults significantly reduces short-term associative appetitive, but not aversive, olfactory memory, compared to controls, with no effect on sugar preference; 30-min appetitive olfactory memory is also reduced when inhibition occurs only during conditioning, compared to controls.

Acute inhibition (using shits.UAS.cUa at 30[o]C or Npha\HReNpHR3.UAS.YFP with 591 nm (yellow) light) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R48B03 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30G08, in combination with a paired odor, in adults results in a significant increase in short-term associative attractive olfactory memory, compared to controls.

Blocking Gαo signalling (using Bper\ptxAact.UAS) in neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R48B03 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30G08 in adults significantly reduces short-term associative appetitive olfactory memory, compared to controls, with no effect on sugar preference.
