The apoptosis rate at 36 hours after larval hatching (ALH) in the brains of flies expressing dpnScer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4insc-Mz1407 is significantly higher than in wild type. From 48h ALH onwards it is significantly lower than in wild type, and the brain displays excessive growth. Between 24 and 36 hours the cell growth rate is higher than in controls. Unlike in wild type brains, in which apoptosis is limited to the dorsal-medial region of the brain lobes, the apoptosis in brains expressing dpnScer\UAS.cUa is more randomly distributed at 72 hours ALH.
