Pupation in Ipk220B/Ipk220B (zygotic) mutants is delayed by around 12 hours compared to wild type. Ipk220B/Ipk220B pupae have rough eyes with missing or disordered ommatidia and bristles that are progressively less defective from anterior to posterior, smaller wings than wild type, disordered or missing bristles on the notum and 56% of mutants form symmetrical degenerative holes on their posterior notums (with a similar percentage developing a single hole in the thoracic region of their ventral midline). Ipk220B/Ipk220B mutants show increased cell death and cellular proliferation defects (reduced DNA synthesis) in third instar larval wing discs (but not other tissues).

Ipk220B/Ipk220B germline clones (to identify any maternal contributions) arrest as pupae; these pupae fail to form an adult epidermis during pupation (including head, thorax, wing, abdomen and legs), and at the third instar larval stage they lack imaginal discs.
