Expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven along the anterior-posterior compartment boundary by Scer\GAL4dpp.PU induces morphological changes in the L3 wing vein, and the L3-L4 area is significantly smaller than in controls. Expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven in the dorsal mesothorax by Scer\GAL4pnr.PU results in a split thorax phenotype. Expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven in the posterior compartment of each segment of the embryo by Scer\GAL4en.PU induces embryonic lethality.

Expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven in the eye by Scer\GAL4GMR.PS induces a rough eye phenotype (reduced eye size and loss of ommatidia, bristles and pigmentation), compared to controls; expression induces significant activation of caspase in the morphogenetic furrow of eye imaginal discs in third instar larvae, unlike in controls. The shape of cone and pigment cells are markedly altered (four cone cells per ommatidium and surrounding pigment cells are hardly distinguishable) in the Scer\GAL4GMR.PS>Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa pupal retina 42hr after puparium formation; there are no significant signs of apoptosis being induced in the pupal retinae, similar to controls. Expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PS does not affect differentiation of photoreceptor cells in the eye discs of third instar larvae, but the differentiation of cone and pigment cells is affected in pupal retinae.

The loss of pigment in the eye phenotype induced by expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PS is significantly suppressed by sesBorg/+ or Ant2G0247 sesBG0247/+; schlankG0061 did not suppress the loss of pigment phenotype. Atg8aEP362/+ suppresses the loss of pigmentation and partially suppresses loss of bristles in flies with expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PS.
