Adult Dop2RΔ1 homozygotes as well as Dop2RΔ1/Df(1)BSC587 and Dop2RΔ1/Dop2RΔ2 transheterozygotes show significantly decreased 3 min short-term memory in an aversive olfactory memory assay compared to controls. The shock and odor avoidance of Dop2RΔ1 homozygotes is normal. Dop2RΔ1 homozygotes show decreased memory due to strongly reduced consolidated (amnestic cooling resistant) memory at both 3 hr and 5 min post-training (the labile, amnestic cooling sensitive, memory is unaffected).
The reduced 3 hr olfactory memory characteristic for Dop2RΔ1 homozygous adults is decreased further by expression of rutVDRC.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU in the mutant background as the amnestic cooling sensitive memory component is reduced in addition to the amnesia-resistant component. Neither the total olfactory memory of the mutants nor any of its components (amnesia resistant or sensitive) is affected by expression of dncdsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ.
