Optogenetic activation (using Cnoc\ChR1Cs.IVS.20xUAS.Venus with 590 nm (red) light) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R68A06 and Hsap\RELAAD.R17A04 in adults significantly increases takeoff rates, compared to controls; takeoffs are shorter in duration than spontaneous takeoffs in controls.

Silencing (using Hsap\KCNJ2IVS.10xUAS.EGFP) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R68A06 and Hsap\RELAAD.R17A04 in adults mildly reduces overall takeoff rates in response to looming stimuli, and significantly and substantially reduces the proportion of short takeoffs, compared to controls.
