Blocking synaptic transmission (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xScer\UAS at 33[o]C) from neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 combination of Scer\GAL4DBD.R52H09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 significantly impairs visual (aversive color discrimination conditioning) memory performance, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 28.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pairs of Scer\GAL4DBD.R52H09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02, or Scer\GAL4DBD.R52H09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03, in adult males or females does not significantly affect the amount of sleep, compared to controls; activation also does not significantly affect locomotor activity of awake adult males, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R52H09 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 in adults significantly reduces aversive and appetitive 1-min olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition during training or testing alone significantly reduces aversive 30-min visual memory, compared to controls inhibition does not significantly affect responses to sugar or electric shock, compared to controls.
