Expressing Hsap\ABL1::Hsap\BCRUAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4sev.PU or Scer\GAL4GMR.PU induces a rough eye phenotype that is mild or severe, respectively. With Scer\GAL4GMR.PU-driven expression, the eye is small, bar-shaped and "glazed", with depigmented areas, and misplaced extra sensory bristles appearing in the dorsal region; in agreement, the typical Elav-positive photoreceptor clusters in the third instar larval eye disc are reduced in number and altered.

Expression of Hsap\ABL1::Hsap\BCRUAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4dome.PU, either consititutively or induced from L1 onwards (under the additional control of Gal80[ts] and temperature shift to 29[o]C) induces lethality. Induced expression form L2 onwards, but not L3 onwards, leads to the development of melanotic masses at L3, which correlates with a severe increase in the number of circulating hemocytes.
