Unlike controls, EndoB4 larvae fail to show starvation-induced increase in autophagosomes (Atg8-mCherry) and autolysosomes (Lamp-GFP) at NMJ boutons; autophagosomes are also not starvation-induced in motor neurons soma.
In EndoB4 pupae, eye photoreceptor exhibit decreased autophagosomes (Atg8-mCherry) in their axons, increased presynaptic active zones per lamina cartridge.
EndoB4 adults exhibit light-induced photoreceptor degeneration, with reduced number of photoreceptors per ommatidia and degenerating rhabdomeres, and reduced number of photoreceptor terminals per cartridge in the lamina. 30 days old individuals show fewer PPM1/2 and PPL1 dopaminergic neurons.
