Mitochondrial ribosomes are found in the mitochondrial matrix and translate genes involved in oxidative phosphorylation encoded by the mitochondrial genome. Ribosomes are formed by two ribonucleoprotein subunits, large and small. The principle function of the small subunit is to bind mRNA. (Adapted from FBrf0205398).
