Description
Description
The Ras family are members of the Ras superfamily of small GTPases. Ras proteins act in signal transduction cascades, generally the activated GTPase recruits and activates downstream effectors. Members this family are typically membrane-associated via isoprenylation of a CaaX motif in the C-terminus. (Adapted from PMID:15731001).
Notes on Group

RGK family members, sometimes classified as a subclass of the Ras family, are listed in a separate gene group, RGK GTPASES.

κB-Ras differs from other Ras family members: it is constitutively active, binding but not hydrolyzing GTP, and lacks a C-terminal CaaX motif (FBrf0125465). It is therefore excluded from this group.
