1-acyl-glycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferases are involved in the de novo synthesis of triacylglycerol (TAG) and glycerophospholipids, and thus are important for lipid storage/transport and membrane biogenesis. Specifically, they catalyze the second acylation step in TAG synthesis, converting lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) to phosphatidic acid (PA) by transferring an acyl group from fatty acyl-CoA to the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone.
