Description
Description

Chitin deacetylases are secreted enzymes that deacetylate chitin to chitosan. Several members of the chitin deacetylase-like family are thought to be catalytically inactive and may provide a structural role by binding cuticular chitin. (Adapted from FBrf0204376.)

Notes on Group

Comparison of catalytic domain motifs of chitin deacetylase-like proteins (Fig. 3, FBrf0204376) suggests that verm (CDA2) and Cda4 lack enzymatic activity. serp is the only member of this group for which there is evidence of enzymatic activity.
