Taspases belong to MEROPS family T2. They are threonine endopeptidases that catalyse cis-cleavage to generate an active heterodimer of alpha and beta subunits, as well as cleavage of aspartyl bonds in other substrates, notably the trx protein in Drosophila and the Mixed-Lineage Leukemia (MLL) protein in humans.
