UFMylation is the post-translational conjugation of the Ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 (UFM1) protein to substrates, and is associated with several cellular activities, including the endoplasmic reticulum stress response and hematopoiesis. Deufmylases are required for the maturation and/or deconjugation of UFM1 proteins, thereby either promoting or reverting ufmylation on target proteins to modify their function. They are included within MEROPS family C78. (Adapted from PMID:27212118.)
