Prototypical RNA polymerase C-terminal domain (CTD) family phosphatases dephosphorylate specific serine residues in the carboxyl-terminal tail of the RNA polymerase catalytic subunit, a feature essential for the reinitiation of transcription by the RNA polymerase.
