Description
Description
Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferases (DGATs) catalyze the final and only dedicated step in triacylglycerol biosynthesis, converting diacylglycerol into triacylglycerol. DGATs fall into two distinct families. In D. melanogaster, the DGAT1 family is represented by a single member (mdy), whereas the DGAT2 (or DAGAT) family comprises 3 members encoded in a tandem array. (Adapted from FBrf0218870.)
Notes on Group

None of the three D. melanogaster DAGAT family members has been functionally characterized - it is possible that one or more of these proteins has no DGAT but rather has monoacylglycerol O-acyltransferase activity and accordingly catalyzes the first step of the monoacylglycerol pathway of triacylglycerol synthesis (FBrf0218870).
