Description
Description
Serine-type OTU deubiquitinases belong to the ovarian tumour (OTU) sub-family of deubiquitinases and catalyze the removal of ubiquitin from ubiquitin chains and ubiquitinated proteins. They have a central serine in the catalytic triad within their OTU domain. (Adapted from FBrf0230214, FBrf0235835.)
Notes on Group

otu and CG3251 both carry a serine residue instead of a cysteine in the catalytic triad and were shown to lack deubiquitinase activity in vitro (FBrf0230214). Subsequently, FBrf0235835 and FBrf0242056 demonstrated that otu still retains deubiquitinase activity, but with reduced catalytic efficiency.
