Oxidation of Met-45 by Mical to form methionine sulfoxide promotes actin filament depolymerization. Methionine sulfoxide is produced stereospecifically, but it is not known whether the (S)-S-oxide or the (R)-S-oxide is produced.

Act57B is expressed in the dorsal vessel and body wall muscles in both larvae and adults.
Expression dependent on Mef2 levels.
Act57B is enriched in border follicle cells relative to follicle cells.
Expression is observed in mesodermal tissues starting in late embryonic stages.
Act57B transcripts are most abundant in larval stages but are also found in embryos. They accumulate in the developing larval body wall musculature, first as segmentally arranged linear arrays and finally as square blocks of concentrated signal over the larval musculature. Labeling of the pharyngeal musculature is observed in embryos.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

Sequence analysis demonstrates insect muscle actins form a distinct family of closely related proteins significantly diverged from cytoplasmic actins.
Translation of actin RNA in early embryos injected with initiation factors has been studied.
Encodes the actin I protein isoform, which is the major actin species of larval intersegmental muscle and adult cephalic and abdominal muscle (FBrf0038990).
