Argk1 enzyme activity is present throughout development but there are sharp, transient peaks during the prepupal period and at eclosion. The greatest increase in activity is seen in imaginal discs in the prepupal period. This peak is not seen at the restrictive temperature in the ts-ecdysoneless mutant ecd1 but reappears after larvae are shifted back to a nonrestrictive temperature or fed 20-hydroxyecdysone.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

Developmentally regulated peak of arginine kinase activity in prepupae is under the influence of ecdysone. Altered doses of Eip75B and ecdysone inducible genes of the BRC alter the pattern of expression of Argk while altered dose of Eip74EF has no effect.
Immunological distances were measured by microcomplement fixation for 20 species of Drosophila Argk. The unit evolutionary period for Drosophila Argk is estimated to be 59 million years. The value predicted for vertebrate creatine kinase was 30 million years. The difference may be because a single gene encodes Drosophila Argk whereas three genes encode various forms of vertebrate creatine kinase.
Argk encodes two isozymes that have parallel gene-dosage responses, immunological similarities and cosegregation of electrophoretic mobility differences.
