dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene tested in RNAi screen for effects on Kc167 and S2R+ cell morphology.
png+ function is required for the presence of plu protein.
Mutations in png cause inappropriate DNA replication in unfertilised eggs, eggs have giant polyploid nuclei. This phenotype suggests that png is required to repress DNA replication before fertilisation. and the gene plays a role in coordinating S phase and nuclear division.
Wild type png function is required to maintain repression of DNA replication until fertilisation. pngmay also play a direct role in coupling S phase and mitosis during the early cleavage divisions.
