	Identification: One of a collection of genes identified with defective larval growth that extend larval life. Not studied further due to problems with background/multiple lesion effects. (Galloni and Edgar, 1999) Members of the hsc70 gene family (heat shock cognate genes) that reside within the same intracellular compartment in different organisms share greater amino acid identity than hsc70 proteins from the same organism but different organelles. This pattern of conservation indicates specialisation of hsc70 function. (Rubin et al., 1993) Hsc70-5 is believed to encode a mitochondrial heat shock protein. (Rubin et al., 1990)
