When dsRNA constructs are made and transiently transfected into S2 cells in RNAi experiments, a decrease in the ratio of cells in prometaphase and metaphase versus the total number of mitotic cells and a whole range of mitotic abnormalities are seen.
Analysis of sti5 and sti2, reveal that the region between residues 1125 and 1178 is important for sti activity.
sti is required for the terminal (post-furrowing) events of cytokinesis.
dsRNA directed against this gene causes defects in cytokinesis when tested in an RNAi screen in S2 cells.
