lin transcript is expressed widely, at low levels in the embryonic epidermis at the time of epidermal patterning and at higher levels in the hindgut and foregut primordia and in the mesoderm.
lin protein localization could not be determined with the anti-lin antibody, or with Myc-tagged lin, so localization was studied by overexpressing lin using the GAL4-UAS system. In 10 hr. embryos carrying "UAS-Lin" (linUAS.cHa) and the "Ptc-GAL4" driver (Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1), lin protein localizes to the nucleus in cells anterior to the en domain, but localizes to the cytoplasm posterior to the en domain.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

lin is required for patterning of the hindgut.
Genetic evidence demonstrates that lin is required for the function of the Abd-B protein, but not for the function of other Hox genes. In mutant embryos Abd-B protein expression is normal but incapable of promoting its normal functions: formation of the posterior spiracle and specification of the eighth abdominal denticle belt.
