Protein Function (UniProtKB)
As an RNA helicase, unwinds RNA and alters RNA structures through ATP binding and hydrolysis. Involved in multiple cellular processes, including pre-mRNA splicing, alternative splicing, rRNA processing and miRNA processing, as well as transcription regulation (By similarity) (PubMed:12368261). Plays a role in innate immunity. Specifically restricts bunyavirus infection, including Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) or La Crosse virus (LACV), but not vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), in an interferon- and DROSHA-independent manner (PubMed:25126784).
(UniProt, P19109)
Summary (Interactive Fly)

DEAD box helicase - involved in generation of precursor-miRNA, double-stranded RNA-mediated silencing, heterochromatin formation, resilencing of active transcription, maintenance of homeotic genes and antiviral immunity

RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene causes a greater than three-fold increase in AttA activity in response to heat-killed E.coli after ecdysone treatment in S2 cells.

Area matching Drosophila RM62 gene. Acc. No. X52846.

Identification: Enhancer trap expression pattern survey for loci expressed in the ring gland.

Isolated in a mutagenic screen to detect dominant second site modifiers of wbl. Rm62 may have a role in chromatin configuration, mutations decrease the spread of heterochromatin into euchromatin and act as a suppressor of position effect variegation.
