Gene Snapshot
Protein tyrosine phosphatase 4E (Ptp4E) encodes a transmembrane receptor tyrosine phosphatase closely related to the product of Ptp10D. Ptp4E single mutants have no known phenotypes. However, Ptp4E-Ptp10D double mutants have lethal respiratory defects. The product of Ptp4E regulates signaling through the receptor tyrosine kinases encoded by Egfr, btl and Pvr. Gene Group (FlyBase)
RECEPTOR PROTEIN TYROSINE PHOSPHATASES -
Receptor Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases possess a single transmembrane domain and are localized to the plasma membrane. The Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases are defined by the active-site signature motif Cys-X5-Arg. (Adapted from FBrf0129980 and PMID:17057753).
Pathway (FlyBase)
Negative Regulators of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Signaling Pathway -
Negative regulators of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor signaling down-regulate the pathway, suppressing the activation of ERK kinase (rl) or acting on downstream effectors.
Summary (Interactive Fly)
receptor tyrosine phosphatase - required for embryonic and larval axon guidance - along with Ptp69D regulates segregation of the young axons into a single core bundle in the larval mushroom body - mutants are defective in long-term memory formation - Ptp10D-Ptp69D double mutants have a strong phenotype in which embryonic CNS axons abnormally cross the ventral midline

Additional Descriptive Data
Expression is observed in the mesoderm in gastrulating embryos. In germ band extended embryos, the strongest expression is seen in the posterior midgut. A scalloped pattern of expression is observed at the visceral mesoderm. At later stages, expression continues in the gut and is also observed in the central nervous system.
