Sufu
novel protein with PEST sequence - inhibits Hedgehog signaling pathway - forms a complex with the transcription factor Cubitus interruptus to inhibit its activity.

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).
Comment: maternally deposited
Su(fu) transcripts are predominantly expressed in adult females and early embryos. Transcripts are expressed uniformly throughout the embryo from preblastoderm to shortened germ band stages.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
polyclonal
dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene tested in RNAi screen for effects on Kc167 and S2R+ cell morphology.
Using the yeast two-hybrid method and an in vitro binding assay it is demonstrated that Su(fu), ci and fu can interact directly to form a trimolecular complex, with Su(fu) binding to both its partners simultaneously. In the absence of hh signalling results propose that Su(fu) inhibits ci by binding to it and that, upon reception of the hh signal, fu is activated and counteracts Su(fu), leading to the activation of ci.
Alleles of Su(fu) complement alleles of l(3)87Ca, l(3)87Cb, l(3)87Cc and l(3)87Cd, and kar.
Su(fu) suppresses the segment polarity and zygotic phenotype of one class of fu alleles and causes a lethal interaction with the other class of fu alleles.
FlyBase curator comment: the insertion in the "c04425" Exelixis line (PBac{PB}Arp87Cc04425) was originally assigned to the Su(fu) gene in FBrf0179797, resulting in the "Su(fu)c04425" (FBal0159716) allele. However, FBrf0184340 shows that the insertion is actually within Arp87C.
