Rab3 transcripts are first detected in 12-15hr embryos on northern blots and are detected at all subsequent stages tested. The are enriched in adult head relative to adult body. Transcripts are detected by in situ hybridization in mid-late embryos in the CNS and in the antenno-maxillary complex. In sections of adult brain, transcripts are detected in the cell bodies of the central nuclei but not in the cortex of the visual system.
