The gene Replication Protein A 30 is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol Dmel\RpA-30 (FBgn0010174). It is a gene from Drosophila melanogaster. There is experimental evidence that it has the molecular function: single-stranded DNA binding. There is experimental evidence that it is involved in the biological process: DNA-dependent DNA replication. No alleles are reported. It has no annotated transcripts. Gene has not been localized to the genome sequence.

RpA-30 protein, the 30kD subunit of single-stranded DNA-binding protein or SSB (a heterotrimer) was purified from 0-18hr embryos. SSB was characterized biochemically and was shown to stimulate the extent and processivity of DNA synthesis of its cognate DNA polymerase α. It is the Drosophila cognate of yeast and human SSB/RP-A proteins.

The Replication Protein A complex from ovaries and early embryos has multiple phosphorylated forms. The relative abundance of these forms is tightly regulated during development. The localization of the Replication Protein A complex varies during the cell cycle in both ovaries and embryos.
RpA-30, RpA-70 and RpA-8 can substitute for human RP-A for the initiation of SV40 DNA replication.
Replication protein A has been purified and characterised. The protein consists of three subunits (encoded by RpA-30, RpA-70 and RpA-8), and binds single-stranded DNA very tightly via the large subunit (encoded by RpA-70).
Drosophila single stranded binding protein is a trimer with subunits of 70kD, 30kD and 8kD representing the cognates of the human and yeast SSB/RP-A proteins.
