Encoded product has very little activity for typical GST substrates, has significant activity in the GSH conjugation of the lipid peroxidation product 4-HNE, and is expressed in tissues (CNS and imaginal discs) not normally associated with detoxification.

GstS1 interacts with the TnH-34 isoform of troponin-H in asynchronous indirect flight muscle.
