FlyBase curator comment: the insertion in the "f04576" Exelixis line (PBac{WH}CG18661f04576) was originally assigned to the alien gene in FBrf0179797, resulting in the "alienf04576" (FBal0159508) allele. However, FBrf0184340 shows that the insertion is actually within CG18661.
During embryogenesis alien is expressed exclusively in the muscle attachment sites (apodemes) of the somatic muscles in the head, thorax and abdominal segments as well as in the epidermal attachments of the pharynx.
