The gene garnet is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol Dsim\g (GD24518, FBgn0013882). It is a protein_coding_gene from Drosophila simulans. Its molecular function is unknown. An electronic pipeline based on InterPro domains suggests that it is involved in the biological process: vesicle-mediated transport; intracellular protein transport. 2 alleles are reported. The phenotype of these alleles is annotated with: pigment cell. It has one annotated transcript and one annotated polypeptide. Protein features are: Armadillo-like helical; Armadillo-type fold; Bovine leukaemia virus receptor; Clathrin/coatomer adaptor, adaptin-like, N-terminal. Gene sequence location is chrX_Mrandom_686:1241..3866.

Mutant alleles were used in the analysis of the chromosomal complement of the D.simulans/D.sechellia hybrids.
Genetic analysis of hybrids between D.sechellia and D.simulans show that each of the five major chromosome arms carries at least one gene affecting the ratio of the 6- and 7- tricosene isomers, with the right arm of the third chromosome having the largest effect.
Marker gene used to physically map D.sechellia introgressions into D.simulans.
