In syncytial blastoderm embryos, bif protein is localized in caps above somatic nuclei and is closely associated with the plasma membrane. It is present in a roughly hexagonal pattern that corresponds to the distribution of F actin. The proteins co-localize throughout cellularization and they form rings around the remaining intracellular gaps at the leading edges of the invaginating membrane. In late embryos, bif protein is detected on axon tracts of the CNS. From stage 14, bif protein is present in the anterior and posterior commissures. From stage 16, it is observed in the longitudinal tracts. In third instar larval eye discs, bif protein is found in all photoreceptor cells as soon as they appear posterior to the morphogenetic furrow. At this stage, the localization of bif protein again shows a very strong resemblance to that of actin. Both proteins are present in the apical region of the disc. At ~55 hours of pupation, bif protein becomes localized mainly to the cytoplasmic side of the extending rhabdomeres.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
