prod protein is ubiquitous in embryos, larvae, and adults. The protein is highly concentrated in the centric heterochromatin of second and third mitotic chromosomes. In salivary gland chromosomes, more than 400 euchromatic sites are stained, but the chromocenter remains unstained.
