For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Genetic mosaic analysis reveals eddy is not required in a cell-autonomous fashion in the R cells, indicating that the eddy protein is likely to be produced by cells in the optic stalk or optic ganglia thereby influencing growth cone behaviour. Mutant phenotype demonstrates eddy is essential for R cell outgrowth.
