S2 cells treated with dsRNA generated against this gene show reduced phagocytosis of Candida albicans compared to untreated cells.
The product of colt is presumed to be involved in a mitochondrial metabolic process and can be critically required in specific morphogenetic mechanisms.
Embryonic development can take place without zygotic colt function giving rise to larvae with incomplete filling of the tracheal system with gas. If development proceeds further colt function specifically affects morphogenesis of the wings, by altering the differentiation of the wing epithelial cells and by blocking the unfolding and expansion of the wings after eclosion.
