For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
One of a series of genes encoding electrophoretically separable proteins extractable from the cuticles of third instar larvae, but not other stages. First identified by protein electrophoresis as LCP5; molecular studies showed that a protein of this mobility is coded by two genes in the cuticle protein gene cluster in 65A, Lcp65Ab1 and Lcp65Ab2. Several electrophoretic alleles of LCP5 were identified. These are listed under Lcp65Ab1; some may be Lcp65Ab2 alleles.
No gene product detectable in wild type, only in the EMS-induced allele, Lcp65Ab1rho; migrates between CP3 and CP4. Not clear that the mutant product is confined to third instar larval cuticle.
